Colorist Dave Pickett, most recently senior colorist at Retina in San Francisco, has joined Finish Editorial in Boston, MA. Dave’s arrival at Finish follows a quick freelance stint in which he was called to correct for McCann Worldwide on spots for Coca Cola with director Jon Barber of P.I.G. This is Dave’s second go round with McCann global having color corrected last year for the “Generations” spot.
At press time Pickett was about to embark on a Tufts Healthplan assignment directed by George Hickenlooper via Right Brain for agency Gearon Hoffman in Boston. Pickett broke into the business in 1997 as an assistant and then colorist at the former POP/Company 3 in Santa Monica. From there he went to RIOT Santa Monica where he did work for The Reel Thing on spots for Honda along with other work for Infiniti, Gatorade and Carta Blanca.
In 1999 he moved to Crawford in Atlanta GA working on the only HD/Data Spirit /2K suite in the Southeast at the time. Pickett is credited with returning a lagging commercial operation to the top through his efforts. This included winning a Monitor award for a National Geographic series shot in HD in 2001.
His colorist credits over the years have included work for Toyota, the NHL, Ebay and ESPN. More recently he has done campaigns for Oxyclean with director Tom Schiller of Coppos Films, and SOS lensed by Connor McDonald of Filmcore. Both campaigns were through advertising agency DDB Needham while working in San Francisco.
For the past six months Dave has worked both as a freelancer with sessions for Los Angeles AIR studios, and as an owner of The Main Ingredient, an upscale restaurant in Tallahassee Fl. Dave credits understanding of the hospitality industry with helping create a solid customer service environment. One that he will bring to Finish to enhance their already recognized service.
Pickett joins a lineup at Finish that includes the most experienced Fire editor in the world, Scott Knowlton, along with staff editors Tim Kane, Julie Michel and Don Packer. With a combination of the Diamond and the Davinci 2K plus, Fire, Smoke HD on Tezro and Avid, Finish provides Boston’s primary source for off-line, color correction and finishing.
Don Packer is founder and Avid editor at Finish. Sean Vernaglia is Executive Producer. You can visit their website at finishedit.com.
