Fifteen of the country's brightest collegians are heading to Yale to face one of their most challenging "exams." JEOPARDY! will tape its annual College Championship October 3 & 4, 2003 at The Lanman Center in the Payne Whitney Gymnasium on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The tournament will pay off with a minimum $50,000 in cash and a brand new car to the winner. The shows will air nationally from November 10-21, 2003, and are broadcast in Hartford/New Haven on WTNH at 7:00pm.
"It's always exciting watching today's young people play JEOPARDY!," said host Alex Trebek. "Not only do the college students aim for individual honors, but they really compete for their schools as well. The JEOPARDY! College Championship is always rich in spirit and school pride."
"Yale is one of the most highly regarded educational institutions in the world," says Harry Friedman, Executive Producer of JEOPARDY! "This will be the first Ivy League campus to host the JEOPARDY! College Championship -- it's a winning combination! We know the students at Yale and the city of New Haven will make this a truly memorable event," continued Friedman.
"It is truly a pleasure to welcome JEOPARDY! to the Elm City," Mayor John DeStefano said. "It is a great opportunity to highlight all that New Haven has to offer -- great restaurants and shops, Yale University, world-class museums and theatres, and our wonderful neighborhoods and residents. I know the folks from the show will enjoy our terrific City."
The JEOPARDY! College Championship search for the contestants was held over the summer across the country. You can still get tickets for the tapings.
JEOPARDY! fans may pick up ticket applications throughout Connecticut at Bernie's and Cutler's Records & Compact Discs locations, as well as the Yale Bookstore on campus.

This is a fond wrinkle as it is a fond farewell. The whole film community wishes the very best of everything Hollywood holds to Valerie Weiss and Rob Johnson. Both will be greatly missed in this region as they transition to their new lives in Southern California, Valerie will finish her Boston shot new short film I LOVE YOU, and Rob is polishing his acting skills and looking for work as an actor. Imagine hosted a small farewell reception for Valerie and Rob the week they left for LA at UpStairs on the Square attended by close friends and co-workers.
"I was so surprised and honored that Carol Patton wanted to host a going away party for Rob and me, Valerie told Imagine. “We had such a great time living and making films in Boston, that it is very sad to leave. It was so sweet of Carol to give us such a lovely opportunity to say goodbye to our friends. We hope to come back soon to visit and for some projects that we are working on. We look forward to reading IMAGINE from LA,"
Valerie and Rob are missed for many reasons. We miss their energetic talents, their passionate regard for the film industry (no matter how small the part), their willingness to volunteer knowing all the while they will learn: sponges, both of them. Valerie will miss being the Film Maker in Residence at Harvard University Dudley House Film and Drama Program, a program that she founded and helmed for the past four years providing the film community a warm and friendly salon setting for featuring industry accomplished guest speakers who were willing to share their wealth of knowledge and offer advice to eager new filmmakers.
It is with regret that before Valerie Weiss left that she wrote to her following in a parting email, “I am sad to announce that The Dudley Film Program has reached the end of its course. After four years, the Program will finally draw to a close. I wish to thank all of you for your continued participation and support of the program. I have greatly enjoyed meeting you all and interacting with you either as filmmakers who contributed work to the program or as great lovers of film who wished to share in your appreciation with fellow film enthusiasts. I want to thank all of our speakers who contributed their knowledge, expertise and vision to the Program.”
We all will miss the Dudley Film Program, but mostly we’ll miss the bright smiles and keen efficiency of Valerie Weiss and Rob Johnson. We wish them well and look forward to their return.

What do you get when you mix college survival skills, a coop full of organic goodies and a handful of starving artists? Free Samples, that’s what!
In addition to the support of the Harvest Coop, the film garnered a generous sponsorship from Green Mountain Gringo Salsa and Tortilla Strips. This collaboration between Weiss’s team, Harvest Coop and Green Mountain Gringo is a wonderful example of how community-minded businesses can support the local artistic community. That kind of support allowed FREE SAMPLES to lift its level of production value and aesthetic beauty much above the film’s shoestring budget.
