Technicolor Launches Major East Coast Post-Production Facility

An announcement in New York positions Boston uniquely between the new and expanded services of Technicolor Creative Services, with facilities and services in both Montreal and New York City. The new company is a Thomson service (a multi-billion company that markets and distributes both professional and consumer products under the Technicolor, Grass Valley, THOMSON and RCA brand name), and the post-production arm of Technicolor Entertainment Services (TES), a tested leading provider of end-to-end post-production and distribution services to content providers. This month they launch a major digital post-production facility in New York's Greenwich Village.

Charles Herzfeld, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Technicolor Creative Services-East Coast told IMAGINE "the new facility will offer the largest array of integrated services available to the East Coast production community. After 30 years of being in the lab business in New York, we are responding to the growing demand from our customers for digital services on projects that originate on film and digital video formats. Thomson and Technicolor are making a strong commitment to the integration of Technicolor's global post and post post-production businesses. We are all very excited to pave the way for the future of our business in New York and in Montreal." Between these two Technicolor Creative Services facilities, every conceivable post-production requirement can be met.

"We are redoubling our commitment to New York's film, broadcast and commercial advertising production communities, "stated Bob Beitcher, President of Technicolor Creative Services. "We are fully committed to the industry's future here and feel that there is a tremendous opportunity for Thomson and Technicolor to continue to grow their post-production businesses organically. "

The New York post facility will feature a full array of digital post-production suites, the new facility will blend the best available third-party software and hardware with Thomson's best-of-breed post-production solutions. In addition, the facility will use internally developed software tools and solutions from Technicolor's well-established West Coast and Canadian post facilities.

Overseeing the creation and management of Technicolor's New York post facility will be industry veteran Claude Gagnon, President of Technicolor Creative Services-East Coast, which includes both New York and the post operations formerly known as Covitec in Montreal, which were Astral before that.

Post-production executive Alfie Schloss, joins Technicolor as Vice President and General Manager of the New York post facility. Schloss previously served as General Manager and VP of Marketing and Sales for Tapehouse Digital.

Adding to the talented team at Technicolor's New York post facility will be renowned colorist John Dowdell, who will serve as the Chief Imaging Officer/Senior Colorist. Dowdell, who was a founding member of Tapehouse, is widely respected as one of the great colorists in the industry - having pioneered many of the technologies now widely in use.
"We feel that this stellar team using the best in cutting-edge technology will provide our customers with unsurpassed quality and a new paradigm for post-production in New York," said Schloss.

The New York post facility will be located at 110 Leroy Street in the West Village, which is the former home of Shooting Gallery and Gun For Hire Post. The new facility will dramatically increase Technicolor's service offerings in New York by linking world-class post-production capabilities with their most successful film operation in the city.
