A young movie producer is subjected to a relentless in-your-face campaign from talentless, feckless would-be screenwriter in this hilarious indie makeover of Martin Scorsese's celeb-stalker KING OF COMEDY. The young janitor/screenwriter of EVERYONE'S GOT ONE (a movie script, that is) believes himself a genius with a script that will surely bring escape from his nagging mother, loud sister, and mundane life. But the problem with his script is that it sucks! EVERYONE'S GOT ONE is the first film from writer/director/star Garth Donovan, a Belmont native who graduated from Stonehill College. Afterwards, Schmooze with the filmmakers, eat great food provided by Lucy’s and enjoy the musical entertainment of Blues harmonica master James Montgomery and guitarist Bruce Marshall. Proceeds benefit the Woods Hole Film Festival. Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA. 617-734-2500, www.coolidge.org
The Director's View Film Festival was founded to salute the role of the director in filmmaking. The festival is unique in that it celebrates a master of the medium (director Arthur Penn will receive the 2003 Joseph L. Mankiewicz Excellence in Filmmaking Award) at the same time it hosts screenings and competitions in independent narrative, documentary and student films. Seminars and lectures with filmmakers and industry leaders are offered throughout the festival's five days, as are cocktail receptions and opening and closing night galas. This year the festival will also bestow its first honorary award for Excellence in Documentary Filmmaking to a legendary documentary filmmaker, followed by a panel discussion and reception. info@thedirectorsview.com, www.dvff.org

This weekend workshop explores the process of identifying and solving the obstacles faced by historical, environmental, biographical, and other documentary producers throughout all phases of production. A successful documentary producer is constantly challenged not only to solve problems (budgetary, technical, legal, and creative), but also to harness them as a primary creative force in the film. Examples will be depicted by screenings of landmark classic and contemporary documentaries and the workshop will culminate in a roundtable problem-solving of a current project in-production with the instructor. 508-487-FILM, vansant@C4.net
